Our Vision
We are re-imagining an Africa away from the constraints of the perpetual developing stage, an Africa, through its visionary ancestral depository of knowledge and practices, effecting future forecasting and confidently cultivate innovations in the design, production and applications of textiles.
Our Mission
Using traditional knowledge and practices surrounding Textile to inform design aesthetics and innovations throughout a variety of areas where textiles can be utilised. Simultaneously we strive to contribute to the preservation of Africa’s boundless Textile heritage and convey the narratives and societal impacts it has and has had on our society’s.
Timbuktu research and design had been established to bring together African led design concepts and methodologies, heritage management and textile research. These spaces are set to foster creativity and inform innovations at national and African-wide levels. In a changing and promising landscape, Timbuktu research and design aims to positively impact the Textile industry on the African continent. With research and education at the cornerstone of our practices, Timbuktu research and design aspire to pursuit methods to regain dominion over our narratives and practices that will assist us in the establishments of futures.
